Herding

Its about time I put something useful here.  However, there doesn't seem to much equipment used in herding except for a crook and a good pair of boots (or waders depending on the field).  We searched for a long time for a good crook.  We used a piece of bamboo for a long time.  I had an extra piece of PVC so I put a few caps on it and gave it a shot.

Click for a better shot This is a simple crook.  It's made from a five foot piece of 1/2" schedule 40, PVC.  I fitted a cap to each end to make it look pretty.  Some people like the crook to make noise.  If you like that, put a handful of small rocks inside before putting on the caps.

We're still learning and as we learn, we look for the ways to cut corners.  Unfortunately, we've had to put herding on hold.  We're city locked and the only stock we can train with are a few hours away.  Until we can get back into it, I've put up a few pictures of our Aussies.  They were taken at their instinct tests.   Enjoy.
