“Tory”
Kasenjis Little Tory Lin
Breed: Chow Chow
Alias: King Fuzz, T-Man

20 May 91 - 27 Oct 97

Tory

Tory was our second chow and first boy in the group.  He was a gentle giant standing a full 24” tall at the shoulder.  He was a typical chow in temperament but it never took long to get on his good side.  We originally expected Tory to be a problem when we brought Sydney home but he was just the opposite.  Tory took on the surrogate dad role.  Syd would jump on him, tug his ears and play with him.  He would nose her, paw her and let her chase him (the same couldn't be said for Mariko).  Tory liked to nuzzle up to you when you sat on the floor and act like the big protector.
Tory escaped from the yard back in Sept. 97.  We can only guess at his motive but we believe it to be a neighbor's cat that likes to sit on the hood of my car.  Tory loved cats (the only squeaky toy that moves) and he pushed out two boards in the fence.  The boards closed behind him and he was gone.  I found him the next day a few miles away.  My wife and I received many well wishing notes from our friends at the shows as well as from the Internet.  We thank you all.

“Mariko”
Lady Mariko Suski
Breed: Chow Chow
Alias: Munchkin, Munch

28 June 90 - 10 Dec 99

Lady Mariko Suski
Mariko was our first chow and the oldest dog in the house.  Her name is influenced by the movie Shogun and the breed's Chinese origin.  Mariko is small for a Chow which also influenced her alias (at least two of them).  We originally brought her into our home as a companion, which is what she stayed.
Mariko was the definitive Alpha in the house and had her “spots” that the other dogs would clear out of at her approach.  She had many of the breed's stranger traits such as the loathing of wet grass and reserve with strangers.  At dog shows we feel confident enough to allow her to hang out in an X-pen.  She sat and watched the crowds go by and generally viewed the whole thing as an inconvenience.

"Crystal"
Peppertree's Ebony Crystal HIT
Alias: Behemoth, Nose

October 1996 - November 2002
Crystal

Sydney needed a companion who could play at her energy level.  And we wanted another Aussie anyway.  Our love of the Aussie didn't escape the view of other people at the dog shows, either.  When we expressed an interest in another Aussie, our friends helped us out.
Crystal was an instant hit with Sydney.  We also learned about how different Crystal and Sydney are.  Sydney is eager to learn, Crystal is bull-headed.  Crystal didn't fare well in obedience classes, mainly due to her high activity level and her attempts at herding her classmates.  But we finally got her through Basic.  She finished near the top of her class after the light bulbs turned on in her brain.
With the start of the Altered Conformation program, Crystal found a new outlet for her talents.  On her second time in the ring she strutted away with Best Altered.  She always found a way to keep us on our toes.  It was hard to let her go.
