To my readers--

My two novels, Simple Gifts and its sequel, The Porcelain of Twilight, are now out of print. As I've often said, I write these stories to be read, and so I've put them on the web so that folks can still read them.

Simple Gifts is an episodic novel. The chapters all have names, and you will find them listed in a vertical scroll bar at the left of the story screens. Still, it is a novel, and the "stories" should be read in chronological order.

I would rate Simple Gifts as TVPG-LD overall (a sprinkling of L and D, that is); however, there are several TV14-S scenes in the latter half of the novel. The Porcelain of Twilight is also TVPG-LD.

This site has been optimized for monitors with a screen resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. If you have a monitor with a higher resolution than this, you're no doubt looking at a screen with this text block in the upper left corner and the background graphic "tiled" or repeated beneath and to the right of the text block. I regret this, but felt it was necessary: I do not want readers with 14-inch monitors to have to scroll horizontally every time they read a line, and the page design, I belatedly discovered, does not lend itself well to proportional sizing.

So those of you with large monitors might want to take a moment to resize your browser window before you go on. Note, though, that the stories you'll be reading are all much longer than one window, so you'll only have to resize horizontally.

You may notice that I do not mention anywhere on this site the name of the media franchise on which these stories are based. I want people to come here because of word-of-mouth, or because they have done a search on Claire Gabriel or on Simple Gifts, not because they are searching aimlessly on the franchise name. I honestly don't think most of the latter group would find much of interest at this site.

DISCLAIMER: The characters depicted here belong to Paramount/Viacom in fact and to us in fantasy. These stories are fantasy.

Enjoy. And let me know what you think of Simple Gifts.
