Many people and religions have always tried to find and use a Jesus who was something other than who and what He is and was. Then they would go on the assumption that He, She or It was their God, and act accordingly!
Examples:
I knew of a church in which the pastor was a staunch KJV-only advocate. So staunch that he stood in front of the congregation holding up his Bible and said, "This is Jesus. I love Him," and passionately kissed his copy of the Bible several times.
The poor fellow!
("Ye search the Scriptures") Jesus already told those Jews who were searching to find LIFE in the Scriptures (The Word) would find that it points to HIMSELF: THE "LIVING" WORD, IN WHOM THERE IS LIFE!
Anyone who has been born again, filled with the Holy Spirit, and has a close walk with Jesus knows what I am saying is true.
In the same vein the Catholics treat their "wafer god" as an "IT"! They are taught to believe that "IT" contains the actual body of Christ!
The actual Person of Jesus Christ is the real meat and drink (i.e. "life"), and doesn't represent some "transubstantiation" of Himself.
"Unless you 'EAT OF ME' you shall die in your sins", says Jesus! He can only be appropriated through "Faith" - but only through the kind of Faith that is based on having a true revelation of Him!!!
These few examples and many like them only go to prove that such people have never seen or understood the real Jesus Christ, neither in Person 2,000 years ago when He walked the earth, or today in the Person of the Holy Spirit...
He was a pastor and did not know the difference between the real, living person of Jesus Christ and a translation of the written Word. Jesus is the Word, but He is not a written translation of the Word.
Even against the command where we are not to have false gods before Him, and are not to worship things made with hands as if they themselves contained God, the Catholic church has always persisted in these false teachings leading their unquestioning parishioners down the wide road to destruction.
Nevertheless, Jesus Christ remains a Person and "personal", and CAN and MUST be Known personally and individually...
known through the kind of Faith that sees Him In Person, high and lifted up!
