And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. (Luke 22:19 -20)
To His disciples; to His followers; to those who believe on Him He says, "Do this in MEMORY of Me... when you break bread and eat it remember Me; the Bread of Life, who was broken for you...
The bread only represents His body that was broken for us. The bread is NOT His body but only represents it when we break a piece of bread and eat it in remembrance of Him. There is no mystery, no transubstantiation here. "He Himself was the body that was broken for us, and is not some substitute of it!"
The cup represents the shed blood of the new testament which He shed for us. No mystery or transubstantiation here either! It was by the shedding of His very own blood (shed once and for all and never to be repeated again in any way, shape or form) that saves us, when we appropriate the salvation He is offering us by faith in Him - in Him alone - and NOT in some object that represents Him.
What makes a Christian a Christian is because they know He is risen from the dead and they act accordingly (by faith)! They lay ahold of Him because He is alive and real along with all that He has done; and because He lives and has revealed Himself to them proves they have been crucified with Him and are dead to the world - dead to honoring any and every false and lying way that this world says one must do in order to acheive heaven and eternal life!
All who believe know that Christ has already acheived the victory... and all without their help. Their trust is in "Christ", NOT in some piece of bread and wine. For these - "IT IS TRULY FINISHED!"
and when you drink from the cup give homage to Me as you acknowledge the blood that I have shed in order to save you.
(This all goes to serve the Christian in order to remind them of who He is and what He's done.)
The power or life isn't in the bread or the cup of wine, but in His very own body and shed blood. It was "GOD" who became flesh - NOT the other way around!!!
May every blessing in Christ be yours,
Biff
