UPON THIS ROCK!

There have always been those who profess the name of Christ, but who refuse to bear the reproach of the cross and keep seeking to have us mix with the world. Who are these "New" Evangelicals, why must we be aware of them, and what sets them apart from the Christian who will *never* compromise his or her precious faith in Jesus Christ?

*1. They preach a "positive message" in making the Gospel more "respectable" and "attractive", appealing to the flesh, by gearing it to the youth, to the athlete, to the politician, to the movie star, etc., rather than to the depraved and lost sinner (which we all are).

*2. They glory in size and numbers as their crown of success (The teachings of "The Purpose Driven Church" is but one example) in winning people over to Christ (but only after the flesh) by the easy believism "Gospel" they preach, rather than striving for fidelity to the Truth.

*3. They place love and unity 'above' sound doctrine and our being sanctified to the Truth of God's Word, as the primary basis for Christian fellowship.

*4. They want you to "agree to disagree" with them if they are non-biblical, for the sake of love and unity, rather than rebuking them and separating yourself from them if need be.

*5. They want to be "flexible", and like to keep an "open mind" regarding the fundamentals of the Faith, as well as the inerrancy and inspiration of the Holy Scriptures.

*6. They strive to practice "infiltration" and seek to "build bridges" with known enemies of the Gospel rather than follow Biblical "separation" with respect to churches which have left and compromised the Faith.

*7. They seek to find new ways to "Christianize" pagan thought (as psychology, psychiatry, astrology, etc.) and honor pagan systems (as the Roman Catholic Church) which are founded upon "unbelief" in the finished and fully sufficient work of Jesus Christ.

*8. They seek to move the Church away from her high calling and preaching of the gospel by making her an instrument to affect worldly temporal "Political, Economical and/or Social Change", rather than eternal "spiritual change".

They make Christians feel it's their duty to *forget or downplay doctrinal differences* and work together with other "false and apostate Churches" (as the RC's, LDS, JW's, etc.) in ridding the world of abortion, pornography, and like causes.
So, rather than emphasize our responsibilty to the Great Commission and the "eternal" welfare of man, they came to steer us away through their getting us involved in joint "humanitarian concerns"...and all of this is being done in the name of..."Christ"???

Beware Christian! By the Scriptures and by today's Watchmen, we have been duly warned that in the last days deceivers will be everywhere, and many of them will be wearing the clothes of "New Evangelicals". You will find many of them in high and respectable positions in the Church. And it is by their smooth words and influence that they hold the power to motivate others, who lack discernment, to follow their lead. But their vision for the Church is dark and their path for us to follow is crooked and leads to a one world government and church that will be run by another "Leader". They must compromise the Truth for the sake of unity. Let's not follow their lead.

One of the world's foremost evangelists, Billy Graham, has called Pope John Paul II, "The greatest religious leader of the modern world..." (Sat.Eve.Post, Jan-Feb 1980)
"Christian psychologist", James Dobson, considers the Pope to be, "The most eminent religious leader who names the name of Jesus Christ." (Focus on the Family Citizen, Jan 1990, p.10)
John Wimbur is an enthusiastic supporter of ecumenism who came out strongly in favor of Roman Catholic evangelism: "Since Pope John XXIII called Vatican II and prayed 'Come Holy Spirit, we need a new Pentacost,' there has been an explosion in the Church." (MC510 Manual, Fuller Seminary)
On his TBN program Paul Crouch told two priests: "In the essentials our theology is basically the same: some of these even so-called doctrinal differences...are simply matters of semantics. One of these things that has divided us (refering to transubstantiation) all of these years shouldn't have...we were really meaning the same thing but just saying it a little differently....So I say to the critics and the theological nitpickers, "Be gone, in Jesus' name!" Let's come together (with Rome) in the spirit of love and unity....(Audience applause.) (From a tape of "Praise the Lord" (TBN), Oct.17, 1989)
Self-esteem advocate Robert Schuller says, "It's time for Protestants to go to the shepherd (the pope) and say, "What do we have to do to come home?" (L.A.Herald, Sept.19, 1987)
Evangelical J.I.Packer: "Do I see renewal in the Roman Catholic Church? As a Protestant for whom major elements of official Catholicism represent Christianity skewed, I reply that I do. It is as these...streams of renewal continue to flow, and hopefully converge, that the Catholic Church will give most to the rest of Christendom and to the benighted pagan world of our time." (New Covenant magazine, Feb. 1988)
John Stott told the Nottingham NEAC Conference that 'the visible unity of all professing Christians should be our goal...and evangelicals should join others in the Church of England in working towards full communion with the Roman Catholic Church.'
Bill Hybels and his Megachurch - Willowcreek: This “seeker or sinner-friendly church" growth movement theology suggests that the Church needs to be conformed to the image of the world. But the Apostle Paul writes that we (and the world) are to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 12:2). His church consists of no cross, no hymnals, and a strong appeal to the "unchurched" or the "unbeliever", while preaching a feelings-oriented gospel of codependency/recovery, self-love, and unconditional acceptance, leaving unrepentant sinners to be comfortable in the presence of a holy God.
Chuck Colson in his forward to the book "Evangelical Catholics" (written by a Catholic) states, "...it's high time that all of us who are Christians come together regardless of the differences of our confessions and our traditions and make common cause to bring Christian values to bear in our society...We have much to forgive, much to relearn. But Evangelical Catholics can help us do both so we can band together against the rising tides of secularism which threaten to engulf us. May God grant healing to His church."

From time to time we hear of other prominent Christian names who have visited the Pope and came away convinced he is "born again".
More than ever before today's evangelicals; who seem to lack even the most basic fundamental of the faith: "Grace by faith alone", are beginning to accept Catholics as Christians and seem to find no problems in joining together to evangelize the world for Christ. The Reformers are rolling over in disbelief and many of us as well, who live and know the Truth, are having our stomachs turned. What has happened to change all of this?
"Much" of it has to do with a joint declaration drawn up by Catholic and prominent new evangelical leaders as Colson, called: "Evangelicals and Catholics Together: The Christian Mission in the 3rd Millennium." They have declared themselves (and us as well) as full partners with Roman Catholics in the Christian mission of taking the Gospel to the world, with the stipulation that we do not "proselytize" (make converts) between each other. Not only has the Reformation been betrayed but the one true Gospel as well. Many are now conducting their meetings and crusades openly in partnership with Catholics. Soon, it will be a crime punishable by death to preach the gospel of Grace by faith alone.

- But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. -

To my way of thinking there is no difference between a man who preaches a false gospel and a man who leads others into accepting the false gospel of the Roman Catholic Church, a gospel of faith + works + sacraments + rituals + tradition, etc. True faith in Christ frees a person of their debt owed to God and gives one the true assurance of salvation and acceptance in Christ. The Roman Catholic gospel enslaves the person to the very end of his or her life, never knowing if they're "good enough" to be "worthy" of heaven. How such "Blasphemy" of the precious blood of Christ as this can be tolerated by any true, discerning Christian is beyond me...unless...
#1. They lack the discernment necessary to evaluate the "simple" message of Gospel Truth from Error. If so, they should *never* have been allowed to become teachers, elders, pastors in the Church. -OR-
#2. They are the deceivers of 2 Timothy 3:13! (Take your pick!)

"New Evangelicals" tolerate Rome quite comfortably. They have compromised the one true gospel...and for what? "Unity & Peace!" I take it that none of them were once Catholics themselves! What amazes some of us the most (who were Catholics and know exactly what we're talking about) is that they claim to know the Scriptures, yet it will be these very same Scriptures that will judge them (many of them as "Apostates") in the last day. Where is their fear of God? Their Wisdom? Are they so blind that they cannot see the treachery, deceit, error, paganism, idolatry, witchcraft, false gospel, riches, blood of the martyrs, Nicolatian spirit, lost souls, slavery, and the entire elaborate/mind-boggling system that Roman Catholicism is as it boldly and arrogantly stands opposed to Christ and the Good News all the while claiming to be "The Bride of Christ"? It will *never* change! So...What communion has light with darkness? What fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? How can two walk together unless they both agree?
God is calling us to come out from among them while the New Evangelicals call us to join with them in welcoming our brothers and sisters (who have always been "lost"! until now?) into the fold. Such things as these have never happened before in history on such a grand scale! These New Evangelicals must be confronted and rebuked openly so they may repent. If not, we must separate ourselves from them as they are the cause of "great" division.

- I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ -

Eugene Daniels/World Vision, Billy Graham, Charles Colson, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Campus Crusade for Christ, Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship, Youth With A Mission, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Pat Robertson, J.I.Packer, Os Guiness, Bill Bright, Jay Gary, James Dobson, Charles Stanley, Ted Engstrom are just a few of the many names that have associated themselves with the AD 2000 Ecumenical Evangelism movement.
Roman Catholic Peter Kreeft, who was featured in the February 1992 issue of the Bookstore Journal, a publication of "Christian" Booksellers Association, describes himself as a "born again, Bible believing, Spirit-filled, evangelical Catholic". He claims that Catholics and Protestants are brothers and sisters in Christ and are all Christians who share a common faith with each other and must come together for the sake of the lost. He claims he always was an "evangelical".
The historic meaning of "evangelical", according to The New Merriam-Webster Dictionary: "of a relating to certain Protestant churches emphasizing the authority of Scripture and the importance of preaching as contrasted with ritual." Webster's Deluxe Unabridged Dictionary: "of those Protestant churches...that emphasize the salvation by faith in the atonement of Jesus, and reject the efficacy of the sacraments."
According to this a Catholic can never be an evangelical!

To Rome Grace comes by faith "+" her sacraments, etc...For a Christian Grace comes only by faith in Christ alone & apart from everything else! The two couldn't be farther apart! The "Grace" of the Catholic Church IS NOT the saving Grace of God in Christ! What we have here is a clear perversion of and attack against the Gospel of free and unearned Grace.

- I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness is through law, then Christ died without cause! (Galatians 2:21) -

Reformers as Luther and Calvin identified the Roman Catholic Church and its Papacy with the Antichrist, and others as Wycliffe, Tyndale, Matthew Henry, Spurgeon, Lloyd-Jones and many others saw it as the Great Whore and Mother of all Harlots described in Revelation 17 &18. This is definitely no longer the case today...

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones: "I remind you that the Protestant Reformers were not just bigoted zealots or fools. Their eyes were opened by the Holy Spirit...They saw this horrible monstrosity depicted in the Bible and they warned against it. At the risk of even losing their lives they stood up and protested... A Christianity that merely preaches "Come to Christ" or "Come to Jesus" cannot stand before Rome. Probably what that will do ultimately will add to the numbers belonging to Rome. People who hold evangelistic campaigns and say, "Are you Roman Catholics? Go back to your church," are denying New Testament teaching. We must warn them!"

Latimer to Ridley (as they were being burned at the stake by Rome for their 'precious' faith) : "Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man. We shall this day light such a candle, by God's Grace, In England, as I trust shall never be put out."

Charles H. Spurgeon: "It is the bounden duty of every Christian to pray against Antichrist, and as to what Antichrist is no sane man ought to raise a question. If it be not the Popery in the Church of Rome there is nothing in the world that can be called by that name. It wounds Christ, robs Christ of His glory, puts sacramental efficacy in the place of His atonement, and lifts a piece of bread in the place of the Saviour... If we pray against it, because it is against Him, we shall love the persons though we hate their errors; we shall love their souls though we loathe and detest their dogmas..."

Note the LIGHT that these men of God received, followed and preached by, and compare theirs with the LIGHT of these 'leaders' we are seeing and hearing today....

"As we (Catholics and evangelicals) discussed the meaning of the gospel and what Christ meant to us, it became abundantly evident that we shared a common faith...Traditional Roman Catholics accept the doctrine of grace alone...They (Catholics and evangelicals) share the promise of the Father that they have been accepted by Him, and so they, His children, had better accept each other." (Christianity Today, 10/81)

Jack Hayford writes: "Redeeming worship centers on the Lord's Table. Whether your tradition celebrates it as Communion, Eucharist, the Mass, or the Lord's Supper, we are all called to this centerpiece of Christian worship" (Seven Promises of a Promise Keeper , p. 19).

"Catholics 'believe in justification by grace' and that differences between Catholics and evangelicals 'are not as great as generally perceived and they are not as crucial'...(nor do they) involve heresy...the whole theological core of historic Christianity is held in common with them." (Norman Geisler - The Southern Cross, 1/13/94)

"I don't know anyone more dedicated to the great fundamental doctrines of Christianity than the Catholics." (W.A.Criswell - David Beale, So.Baptist Convention, House on the Sand? pp.142-43)

"I've found that my beliefs are essentially the same as those of orthodox Roman Catholics." (Billy Graham - McCall's 1/1978)

Keith Fournier; author of Evangelical Catholics (a book which is a plea for Protestants to join Catholics in a joint evangelization effort; i.e., an "evangelistic endeavor" that will "evangelize" the world by the year 2000)...speaking of Pat Robertson, D. James Kennedy and others in Evangelical Catholics : "I found not only a tremendous openness to my presence but also a growing respect for my church and a thawing in what had been hard ice in the past."

In his book, Carpe Diem: Seize the Day (Word:1994), Tony Campolo pays homage to Catholicism and his hero St. Francis Assisi, the goofball priest who baptized animals and preached to the birds and bees. In this book, Campolo discoveres God's 'feminine' nature, and embraces the feminine side of God.

This 'One World Church' is fast approaching through so-called 'Christian efforts' by New Evangelicals as yourself, and in all drives towards religious unity by AD 2000; in those who believe in an end time revival before Christ returns, in groups as Promise Keepers, in documents as 'Evangelicals and Catholics Together', in Latter Rain Doctrine, in the 'Christian Coalition', and in 'Kingdom Now'/Dominion Theology, to name a few! So, what may seem to be a worthy cause in working together with Catholics today as a 'great social force for good in America' (but minus the gospel), is really of the world, the flesh and the devil."

Geisler, Criswell, Campolo, Packer, Robertson, Graham - all respected names. Some may say, "how can such rocks of the Church lack discernment and a zeal for the truth?" My answer is, "those who truly know and love the *Truth of the Gospel* and *the Light* they received by hearing it that brought them out of darkness (ALL darkness!) and led them to Christ, will forever hold it in the holiest and highest esteem... while Hating every false way!

Someone else may say, "But these men know the gospel don't they??!" To which I must reply, "IF these men know the gospel THEN WHY, in heaven's name, are they associating themselves with Rome (the FALSE Church) and her FALSE gospel??? Why are they troubling us with these perversions of the gospel?

The Christians who opposed Rome's gospel during the Catholic inquisitions were put to death! These men died because of their faith in the one and only true gospel! So, for anyone to state (as do New Evangelicals) that: 'Both Catholics and Christians believe the same basic truth' that "Salvation is by Grace alone" do not know The Gospel. Catholics believe that "Grace" comes by participation in her church's sacraments, therefore it is nothing more than an utter and complete perversion and destruction of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
So long as Christ lives, this "blasphemy" will never be allowed to become part of the church!

- As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. -

There is no doubt in my new mind that any of us who are born again wouldn't be thankful, even "happy", through the Grace of God, for the opportunity to be called by Him to "suffer and die" for the Gospel! Those who do love God know and love the way of His righteousness and truth and will hate all error - ALL error, no matter what form it takes against God, righteousness and truth. The Christian who has this kind of "godly love" for the truth will hate Rome's heresies with a passion! So, to compromise with Rome is to make a pact with the Devil! These men must repent of their works!"

What a terrible slap in the face these "New Evangelicals" give to all of our brothers and sisters who were burned at the stake for their holy faith at the hands of Rome! Read Foxe's Book of Martyrs sometime and refresh your memory! In it you will see many wonderful and sweet Christian's stand up for the truth and be put to death for the Gospel of Grace by faith alone in Jesus Christ! You will see their love, and their spirit and their God! And I gaurantee it will all make you cry at how "precious" each one of them is and how they valued their faith in their Lord and God. I salute each and every one of them from the bottom of my heart! It's just another precious example of how pure and wonderful our Lord is and how worthy He is of all of our love.
