"Framing"

I first outlined a spot on the floor that I eventually wanted to be the island in the kitchen.

It was great to finally move my tools in under cover and get the roof covered.

This was the last area to get the roof completely covered, and of course it had to rain all week and create a lake.

We used trees from the property cut into lumber to build the walk around the house connecting the two decks.
The open dance hall look was really nice, but I had to start building the inner walls for the family room and pantry.
This is a shot from the living room, back through the kitchen with the master bedroom on the right of that.

I cut out and framed all the windows and door openings. They looked nicer, but smaller.
We did not have very many logs left over from building, and we found uses for them on some wall ends and corners.

We did not have much time to relax for around 3 years, we set these chairs on the porch just in case.

You can still see the small mobile home. We were very thankful to not have to pay rent elsewhere.

The living room and the den area look much larger here than the finished product.

I created a false beam in the vaulted ceiling area of the living room to contain wiring for the ceiling fan and lights.

We made due with a ramp up to the main area of the house for much too long.

This is the area in the bathroom that I framed for the tub on the right and shower on the left.

In the basement I had to bolt pressure treated wood to the cement floor for the inner walls.

This was really a wonderful ramp, not just for the use it gave us, but because it inspired us to build real steps.

At some time the pet entrance had to become top priority.

This is the beginnings of the book case and den wall.

Some logs were needed to serve as corners for other walls and needed processing to look good.

I created cabinets for the sink in the master bathroom, and a vanity.

I built in a dresser in the master bedroom. and gave the closets two levels to hang clothing.

This is the island in the kitchen. It is also wired for electricity and contains the light switches for the room.

We saved several thousand dollars by building our own kitchen cabinets.

I began laying the wide plank pine flooring with a long strip down th middle of the house.

I laid waterproof paper under the flooring for a vapor barrier and to squeak proof the floor.

I had to use over 5,000 screws in the floor. I almost wore out the knee pads on this project alone.

I coated the floor with four coats of Clear Gloss Varithane to make it last nearly for ever.

I laid the center run of wide plank pine, and then worked out each direction from there.

We did not want to waste any space in our home, so we made a pantry over the stairs.

Of course the pantry no longer looks like this. It is jammed packed with food and many other things.
