| WELCOME
TO THE UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH OF WINCHENDON The Church of the Unity was organized in 1866 by Unitarians desiring a liberal religious community in Winchendon. It is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association. We are an open-minded and inclusive fellowship committed to the search for truth and to serving the community around us. [Unitarian, Universalist Association Covenant.] Our philosophy is such that we wish to actively seek out exposure to as many differing ideas, concepts and hypotheses as possible in order that we may glean all the teachings of value as we can. It is felt that seeking to be only with those that agree with us creates an unhealthy sectarianism. |
||
| In
our service we light a chalice that is the symbol of Unitarian
Universalism and consider that: This is a church of the Open Mind, This is a church of the Loving Heart, This is a church of the Helping Hands, This is a church of the Caring Community. |
||
| We
also affirm together those religious purposes for which we gather, as
stated in the object of the church. "The object of this church shall be the search for truth, the examination of contemporary issues through the lens of enduring values, the development and promotion of morality, the worship of God and the service of humanity." |
